Description
The Dominique chicken is what most all of our grandparents or great grandparents raised if they grew up on a farm. This breed is often confused with another great breed, the Barred Rock. The Dominique is America’s oldest chicken breed, dating back to the colonial period. It has provided much of the genetics in the newer modern hybrids used today for egg production. It is known for its very detailed black-and-white barred plumage and rose comb. The smaller rose combs make it a great candidate for the northern states that experience hard freezing winter conditions. This is a Dual-Purpose-Bird which is great for eating and it is a prolific layer of large brown eggs.
